London designer Vivian Westwood's partner Malcolm McLaren was briefly the Dolls manager. He dressed them in red patent leather and designed a backdrop for the stage that Johansen's girlfriend Cyrinda Foxx (Kathleen Hetzekian) stayed up all night sewing - a red banner with a hammer and sickle. The Dolls left for Florida the next day and after a few shows imploded when Thunders’ and Nolan's cravings for heroin made them hurry back to New York City.</div><div><br></div>

I photographed Arturo sitting in his loft during the photo shoot for the new five-piece Blondie. I had asked him if I could do the shoot there because all his walls were painted white.</div><div><br></div>

Though he was quiet as a mouse and shy and giggly, when he did speak he’d be witty and funny, joking around or making really clever off the cuff comments. We used to listen to records in my room, and when the Ramones first went to England Joey brought me back some great British pub rock records by Dr. Feelgood and Joe Strummer’s band, the 101ers. Maybe the best thing about being a part of this scene was having people who liked what you did, or wore, or played, gravitate towards you and show you the kind the love that really means something. To get that, and be able to return it, is very, very special.</div><div><br></div>
